Hut 22 Books was started by Jo Dutton, as a response to the dire situation faced by most new, and even some established writers nowadays. It is virtually impossible to get either a literary agent or a traditional publisher, and Jo knows first-hand all about this, having received more rejection letters than she cares to recall. Primarily started to publish Jo’s own books, Hut 22 is already attracting writers looking for another way to realise their dreams of being a published author, or move away from unsatisfactory and expensive alternatives.

Writing as Jo Bavington-Jones, Jo has had five books published by a hybrid publisher since 2017, but was becoming increasingly dissatisfied and disillusioned with the situation. Jo knew she could do better. So, at the end of 2024, Jo took a giant leap of faith, and Hut 22 Books was born. As of June 2025, Hut 22 Books has already published two Jo Bavington-Jones’ novels, a hardback photography book for Dirk Seyfried, and is working with two more writers.

Unforgettable. This book is a rare gift, a vivid and compelling tribute to sisterhood, its power to unite and transform.

Julie Wassmer
Author of the Whitstable Pearl Mysteries

A fun, action-packed crime romp set against the backdrop of the good ol’ British pub-quiz scene. This story plays out so naturally you almost forget it’s a novel. Hugely satisfying.

Charlie Gallagher
Author of the Maddie Ives Books

The name Hut 22 Books comes from the hut which Jo shares with her partner, photographer Dirk Seyfried, at Folkestone Harbour Arm Marketplace.
