Dirk Seyfried
Dirk Seyfried lives on the Kent coast with his partner, the author Jo Bavington-Jones, and the neighbours’ cats. And sometimes a very friendly fox called Samantha.
Dirk has been photographing for over two decades incorporating both traditional 35mm film and digital photography. His move to Folkestone came after spending many years in London, which had given him unique opportunities for photography in locations including Cuba, Namibia, Nicaragua and South Africa. Since his move he has taken tens of thousands of images along the coast, capturing the sunrises, sunsets and storms that make Folkestone such a unique place.
His photography now appears regularly around the world in print and online. He also has a permanent hut at the Folkestone Harbour Arm market, selling archive quality prints of his work.

A collection of Dirk’s photography of Folkestone and its surrounding areas, helping to explain what attracted Dirk to Folkestone and his move from London to the seaside after a chance visit in 2017. At the time, Folkestone’s reputation was not the best, leading to many of his friends in London asking, ‘Why Folkestone?’
